Sashimi
Sashimi is a traditional Japanese dish consisting of sliced raw fish or seafood. It is one of the most famous forms of Japanese cuisine. Sashimi differs from sushi in that it does not contain rice. Its main ingredient is only raw seafood or fish. This can include tuna, salmon, mackerel, halibut, octopus or shellfish. The pieces are usually cut with great precision and skill to emphasise the freshness, texture and flavour of the ingredients. Sashimi is often served with accompaniments such as soy sauce, wasabi (spicy Japanese horseradish paste) and pickled ginger. Serving sashimi is an art form where appearance and presentation are of great importance. The dish is prized for its simplicity, freshness of ingredients and delicate flavour.
