Wakame

Wakame is a type of edible seaweed that is popular in Japanese and other East Asian cuisines. Wakame has a dark green colour and a distinctive delicate flavour. It is often eaten in salads, soups (such as miso) and as a side dish in a variety of dishes. Wakame is prized both for its taste and its health benefits. It is a source of many important nutrients, including iodine, calcium, and B vitamins. It is low in calories and contains substances that may contribute to heart health and lower cholesterol levels. Both fresh and dried wakame are available commercially. Dried wakame usually requires soaking in water for a few minutes before use, which allows it to return to its natural texture and size.
