Sushi roll, also known as maki sushi, is made by wrapping ingredients in a sheet of nori (dried seaweed) using a special bamboo mat called makisu. Inside the roll are various ingredients such as sushi rice, fish (for example salmon or tuna), vegetables (such as cucumber, avocado) and sometimes fruit or cream cheese. There are several types of sushi rolls: hosomaki: thin rolls with one ingredient inside; futomaki: thick rolls that may contain several different ingredients.; uramaki: a roll in reverse, where the rice is on the outside and the nori is on the inside; temaki: sushi in the form of a cone, rolled by hand, often eaten as a snack. Sushi rolls are often served with soy sauce, pickled ginger and wasabi. They are popular around the world and can be prepared in a variety of variations to suit local tastes and preferences.
